What? Already?


So what’s it like being in your 50s? “Weird” I think is the word I would use to describe it. For most of my life I’ve thought of people in their 50s as being old and I simply can’t imagine that I am now one of them. My mother was 30 when she had me so through most of my teenage years she was in her 40s and she always seemed so grown-up and sensible (which I’m sure she was) but when she turned 50 that seemed to herald her decline into old age. So now I am that woman and I feel, probably like she did too, that I’m still in my prime. The papers always seem to carry features (perhaps I’m just on the lookout for them now?) about how 50 is the new 30 in the same way they try to convince us that grey is the…
